This section includes links to various resources that I’ve found very helpful. Based on my approach to the Product Leadership pillars, this list covers sites on technical skills, business acumen and soft skills.
Manager Tools
This is the ultimate resource for people management. They have a wide collection of podcasts, and I suggest starting with their “Basics” series. They even have a great section on how to prepare for interviews. Best of all, a lot of the content is free.
The Week Magazine
Every manager should be well informed on what’s happening around the world. You don’t want to be caught off guard when talking with colleagues and others in your network, especially clients and executives. But let’s be honest, we’re all very busy. The Week Magazine is an amazing compilation of the latest news in a very quick and easy-to-read format. I really recommend subscribing to it. I particularly like the iPad version.
Product Camp
This is a great “unconference” for Product Managers to learn and network. Look for a chapter near you.
Agile Product Report
A great resource by Andy Stitt provides the latest and greatest articles from the best product management bloggers across the web. It’s a great way to get top Product Management content in a single location. Not to mention I’m excited to have Manager’s Build be included alongside such well known names in the industry.
Agile Alliance
Agile is the latest and most widespread methodology for managing software projects. It’s no silver bullet but it’s a great framework for any software manager to have in their toolbox. The Agile Alliance is a helpful resource for everything Agile. From definitions to presentations and learning material, they include a wealth of information on Agile in practice as opposed to other sites or books that only focus on the theory.
LinkedIn
Having a strong network is important for any manager. Not only to find a job, but to hire the best talent and keep up to date with what other companies and super-stars in the industry are doing. LinkedIn is the most widely used professional network. I highly recommend growing and maintaining your network. You never know…
Harvard Business Review
The leading magazine for keeping up with the latest management trends. Very well written and it’s worth the price. They also have a nice version for the iPad.
Product Collaborative
Product Collaborative aspires is a digital whiteboard where a community of product professionals and entrepreneurs share ideas and learn new strategies for creating products that provide economic and societal value.
